FAMILY ORIGIN: Lamiaceae (Labiatae)

EXTRACTION METHOD: The flowering tops of lavender are steam distilled. Smaller quantities are also produced by solvent extraction.

APPEARANCE: Beautiful bush with violet flowering tops and grass effect leaves below.

PRIME CONSTITUENTS: Over 100 constituents ranging from D-Borneol, Cineol, Carophyllene, Coumarin, Geraniol, Linalol, Esters of Geraniol, L-Pinene, Linalyl, Butyric acid, Valerianic acid etc.

CULTIVATED IN: Mediterranean regions, France, Spain, Italy, England, Australia, Tasmania, Yugoslavia, Turkey, Russia, Bulgaria,Greece etc.

CHARACTER HISTORY: The Greeks called Lavender `Nardus`, the bible called Lavender `Spikenard`, our Grandmothers called Lavender `Linen air fresheners`!
Regarded as the most widely used versatile essential oil for aromatherapists, it was once subjected to extensive adulteration but it has now been left alone and replaced with spike and lavandin.
This oil is famous for treating the burning hand of Rene Gattefosse, a remarkable oil that no First Aid box should be without.

BLENDS IDEALLY WITH: Most essences, especially Bergamot, Clary Sage, Myrhh, Chamomile, Frankincense, Juniper, Rose, Marjoram, Ylang Ylang and Patchouli.

PROPERTIES: Analgesic, antidepressant, antimicrobial, antirheumatic, antiseptic, anti spasmodic, antitoxic, carminative, cholagogue, choleretic, cicatrisant, cordial, cytophilactic, deodorant, diaphoretic,diuretic, emmenagogue, esophylactic, hypotensive, insecticide, leucocytosis, nervine, parasiticide, rubefacient, sedative, stimulant, sudoforic, tonic, vermifuge, vulnerary.

MAINLY USED IN: Many conditions such as acne, bronchial problems, boils, burns, diuretic, cellulite, hysteria, paralysis, wounds, dizziness, insect bites, insect repellent, palpitations, rheumatism, migraines, nausea, period problems, ulcers, throat problems, gout, bruises, depression etc.
